About PantoneTools
A free, independent color-intelligence platform for designers, developers, and print-production teams — built on real color science, run entirely in your browser.
What is PantoneTools?
PantoneTools is a free, independent color intelligence platform for designers, developers, and print-production teams. It converts between CMYK, HEX, RGB, HSL, CIE Lab, RAL, and Pantone-style PMS references using CIEDE2000 color difference, then explains how close each match is with transparent Delta-E scoring. The site includes a curated 276-color directory, coated and uncoated Pantone-style reference pages, WCAG/APCA contrast tools, palette builders, CSS variable exports, Tailwind color scales, design-token JSON, and editorially reviewed color-management guides. All color calculations run in the browser, so pasted brand colors, uploaded images, and saved palettes are not sent to a server. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by Pantone LLC. Pantone® is a registered trademark of Pantone LLC. The color values provided here are for reference purposes only and may not be 100% accurate representations of official Pantone colors. RAL® is a registered trademark of RAL gGmbH, and PantoneTools is not affiliated with RAL gGmbH. For citation context, the methodology and editorial pages document scope, limitations, and review standards.
Why we built it
Color tools online historically split into two camps: marketing sites that demand signup for trivial conversions, and academic pages that print the math without giving you a working answer. Designers and print teams need something in between — a tool that shows the perceptual ΔE distance, lets you switch between coated and uncoated reference sets, exports clean assets, and explains why the answer is what it is. We built that.
Editorial team & expertise
Every learning article is written and reviewed by domain experts with hands-on production credentials, not generalist content writers. Author bios link from every byline. Portraits are generated editorial avatars, not identity-verified staff photographs.
Print Color Management LeadPrint production specialist focused on packaging color reproduction across offset, flexo, and digital presses. Reviews PantoneTools content for production accuracy, gamut realism, and ΔE tolerance guidance.
Design Systems ArchitectDesign systems engineer building accessible color systems for product teams. Author of guidance on Figma variables, design tokens, and WCAG-safe color pairs used throughout the PantoneTools tools surface.
Brand & Accessibility ConsultantBrand consultant specializing in cross-medium color systems — print, digital, signage, apparel, and industrial coatings. Helps brands keep color consistent across vendors and substrates.
How we make money
We do not sell user data, run third-party trackers, or require accounts. The site is self-funded by the team. The trade-off: features ship slower than at venture-backed competitors, but the tools you do see are stable, private, and free for the long term.
